Lesson Areas
Drum Set
Drum set students learn how to read music, develop solid technique, and play full songs. Instruction prepares students for jazz band, rock bands, church worship teams, and live performances, including semi-annual recitals at The Bend Theater.
Concert Snare Drum
Concert snare drum lessons emphasize precision, control, and musical clarity. Students develop strong reading skills, refined technique, and confidence for concert band and orchestral settings.
Concert Percussion
Students study timpani, cymbals, bass drum, triangle, tambourine, and auxiliary percussion. Lessons focus on technique, listening, and ensemble responsibility. Many students have gone on to perform with professional orchestras.
Marching Percussion
Marching percussion lessons blend modern Drum Corps International style with traditional American marching music. Students learn both matched and traditional grip while developing strength, consistency, and musical discipline.
Mallet Percussion
Marimba • Xylophone • Vibraphone
Students focus on reading, solo repertoire, and expressive playing. Technique is developed using traditional approaches, including G.H. Green–influenced methods, to build strong tone and control. Students progress towards playing with 4-mallets.
Why This Approach Works
Learning an instrument is about more than just music. When students are taught with clear structure, high expectations, and consistent support, they develop skills that carry into other areas of their lives.
This approach emphasizes strong fundamentals, steady progress, and age-appropriate challenges. Students learn how to practice effectively, stay focused, and take pride in improvement over time. Performances and ensemble experiences help build confidence and teach students how to prepare, collaborate, and succeed in real-world situations.
By laying a solid foundation early, students are better prepared for the increasing demands of school music programs, auditions, and group ensembles. These skills don’t disappear after a concert or recital — they support academic success, teamwork, and lifelong engagement with music.
“The lessons are structured, encouraging, and effective. Our child has become more confident, more disciplined with practice, and much more comfortable performing in group settings.”
